Freed from prison, Lan returns to his hometown in northwestern China

Eddie Penn [the main character] developed such a strong bond with Blue, the dog featured in the film, that he adopted her after filming ended.

A beautiful, slow and memorable story about the dark environment of rural China with strong actors, direction, script and structure

Director Guan Hu manages to explore the relationship between man and dog from a Chinese perspective, and filled with great cinematography, sound design and interesting narrative solutions, he brings out realism, involvement and character study in a natural way.

With little dialogue, the sobering approach, art house pace and style really take the narrative into a whole new world

The acting of Eddie Penn and the rest of the cast is excellent, and many of the characters, although some of the characters could have been fleshed out a bit better.

Having received the «Osobiy vzladg» prize, I understand why

I appreciate the film for exploring dogs, humanism and society without prejudice and creating something unique.
